Nestled in a huge green crater, where there also is a vast lake of calm waters, Furnas Valley speaks of volcanoes, tradition, clear waters, steaming hot springs and magic. It's documented in several literary and photographic works, as the 1841 book by British writers Joseph and Henry Bullar, A Winter in the Azores and a Summer at the Baths of  Furnas.

For its history, beauty and natural phenomena, hot springs and nature parks, the village of Furnas, in the heart of the island but only 30 minutes away from Ponta Delgada (the largest and most important city), is the perfect place to spend unforgettable holidays in the Azores.

The " Casa da Igreja Velha " (house by the Old Church) is part of  Furnas' History because it is nearby the beautiful church of Santa Ana, built in 1760, where once stood one of the oldest shrines of the island, which was destroyed by the eruption of 1630. Also, it used to be a school and the priest´s residence until it was acquired in 1995 and restored in 2011.
